Overview
Set between the Tuscan coast and the Pisan hills, Montaspro is a pretty stone farmhouse that sits on its own hilltop gazing out over rolling countryside in every direction.. While all fittings and facilities are new, the traditional terracotta floors and beamed ceilings were preserved, and the interior stone walls were left exposed to great effect. The furnishings are simple but very comfortable and tasteful with air-conditioned bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. Below the house, the swimming pool is surrounded by a tiled terrace, towering cedars and miles of open fields and woods. Blissfully overlooked by any but the most detailed guide books on Tuscany, this is an area of minuscule medieval villages with long histories linked by lovely winding roads and footpaths. The house is divided into two independent residences, one of which is reserved for the caretaker's use. The pool is only for our clients use.

700 years ago Santa Luce, a small but intensely proud fortified city, chose with its neighbours to resist subjugation to the then all-powerful Florentine state with dire results. Deprived of their independence and their castles, these hilltop towns are today little more than picturesque villages. A lovely path (and a minor road) leads from Montaspro to the village of Santa Luce, 1.5km/1 mile. Other interesting villages within 30 minutes by car include Chianni, Rivalto and Pomaia. Castiglioncello, a pretty seaside resort, is a 21km/13 mile drive. The coastal Strada del Vino ('wine road'), a driving itinerary through some of Tuscany's most exciting wine-producing areas, begins just south of here. Pisa, about 40 minutes.
