Overview

La Treggiaia is a lovely little restored barn with air conditioned bedrooms and terracotta floors and high, beamed ceilings. It sits on a promontory some distance below the walled village of Castelfranco di Sopra in the Val d'Arno, and enjoys views of the valley on all sides. The swimming pool and tennis court are shared with the owners who live in a villa nearby, but the garden and its comfortable loggia are entirely private. Perfect for two couples or a family with children, La Treggiaia's location in the Val d'Arno offers easy access to sights ranging from monasteries to markets, which can be reached by car or on foot along the many walking trails.

Description

Location

 Midway between Florence and Arezzo, both 45 minutes. The nearest shops are at Castelfranco di Sopra or San Giovanni Valdarno, both 4km/3 miles. To the east is the Pratomagno range and the Vallombrosa Abbey, 25 minutes. The Monti del Chianti to the west mark the boundary of the Classico region; a pretty road leads through Cavriglia to Gaiole, the closest of the Chianti villages, 40 minutes. For a change of pace, Incisa, 30 minutes, offers a cluster of designer factory outlets. Arezzo and Florence are both reached in an hour.

Grounds

 Very pretty and private lawned garden bordered by tall trees. The large pool, 6 x 12m/20 x 40 feet, which is shared with the owners has a hydromassage outlet with a submerged seat. The property unfolds on a hillside, with the shared tennis court with gym equipment set below La Treggiaia - and out of earshot - and the owner's house 300m/yards above.

Assistance

 Assistance is provided locally by the property's very helpful owner, who lives in a separate house on the grounds. Services included in the rental fee, and optional services available, are noted under Price and Availability.

 Airports: Florence, under 1 hour; Pisa, 1 hour 40 minutes. Railway station [free parking and a direct line to Florence] at Figline Valdarno, 10 minutes. Motorway exit at Valdarno, 12km/7.5 miles to the property’s steep white access road. Parking for two cars.

Activities

 Single tennis court at Castelfranco di Sopra, a larger club at Montevarchi, 15 minutes. Riding stables within 10 minutes. 18-hole golf at Circolo del Golf dell'Ugolino, Grassina, about 40 minutes.

 The large shared pool, 6 x 12m/20 x 40 feet, has a depth of 1.20-2.50m/4-8.5 feet and steps for entry/exit.
