Overview

Gli Ulivi is set on a terraced hillside near Sorrento and faces the sea with superb views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. The interior is comfortably furnished in very good taste, centering on a large air conditioned living room that leads out to a lovely terrace furnished with a table and barbeque for alfresco meals. A very well kept garden of olive trees and rockeries leads up to the property’s pièce de resistance, a sunny terrace with a small pool that seems to float above the Bay of Naples. The shops and restaurants of Vico Equense are within walking distance, as is a pretty pebble beach, although both are accessed by several flights of steps. This is an ideal property for non-drivers who don’t mind a steep climb or two, as a train service connects Vico Equense to the area’s key sites, including Sorrento, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples. For drivers there is parking in a garage below the villa with a lift up to the house.

Location

 Vico Equense is a pleasant coastal community on the north shore of the Sorrento Peninsula, with very good restaurants and shops - and a wonderful nightlife for teenagers. Although only 1km/0.5 miles, the walk to the village and the train station entails a steep climb. Below the house, and down some fairly steep steps, lies a pebble beach that provides an alternative path to the village. It is a winding 25-minute drive to the ruins at Pompeii or to Sorrento, for the ferry to Capri, and 1 hour to gorgeous hilltop Ravello.

Grounds

 Gli Ulivi's grounds fall from the road leading into Vico Equense to the water's edge. A terrace perched 60 steps above the house offers a spectacular view of the Bay of Naples, with loungers, umbrellas and a private pool, 3 x 4m/10 x 13 feet. Below the house, many steps and a steep path down, is a pebble beach which also provides a pathway to the village.

Assistance

 Assistance is provided locally by the property's very helpful owner, who speaks a little English and lives in the lower section of the property with a separate entrance and garden [and a dog]. Access

 Airports Naples, 36km/23 miles or 40 minutes. Bus stop and railway station at Vico Equense for local travel, Naples for intercity lines. The roads on the Amalfi Coast are notoriously narrow, twisting and often steep. Parking below the villa for one car in a garage or along the road, with a private lift up to the villa followed by a flight of steps.
