Rosso Fiorentino is a delightful casa colonica within a minuscule hamlet of attached buildings called Sant'Andrea. Perched on a hilltop in the green heart of Tuscany, the house gazes towards the medieval village of San Gimignano and beyond that, an endless rolling landscape of farmlands and forests. Rosso Fiorentino dates from the 16th century and many of its original features, such as beamed ceilings and terracotta floors, were preserved during a recent restoration. The interiors are furnished with a blend of Tuscan antiques and comfortable modern pieces, and the kitchen and bathrooms, although brand new, echo the traditional styling. The sitting room opens to a terrace shaded by tall trees with a long marble table for outdoor dining and a sitting area under a white canvas pergola. A few steps lower, a second terrace offers comfortable loungers arranged around a large swimming pool, all skirted by a small but very pretty garden. A hot tub set in a covered courtyard beckons after a day visiting the sights at Florence, Siena and Volterra, all within an hour's drive.
