Overview
Villa Viliano lies in the heart of the Crete Senese, the remarkable rounded limestone hills to the south of Siena. Once a rural school for the children from the local farms and hamlets, the old building has been converted into a lovely small country house with a bright and very comfortable interior with a modern kitchen and bathrooms, air conditioned bedrooms. A pretty loggia extends the living space to include a shaded area for outdoor dining. Surrounding the house, private swimming pool and hot tub is a beautifully maintained garden leading almost seamlessly into fields that change colours with the shifting seasons and olive groves. The area is rich in historic treasures, including castles, abbeys and medieval towns. It is also known for a wide variety of food products and crafts, with many of the fattorie and workshops open to visitors.

Asciano, 6km/4 miles, was founded by the Etruscans some 2500 years ago and has a little museum to prove it. More practically, it provides the closest supermarket to the property in an otherwise blissfully unpopulated area - although there is a small shop and a restaurant at Chiusure, 2km/1.5 miles. A very steep and winding 8km/5-mile drive from Asciano is the magnificently sited Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore, an active monastery with beautiful frescoes and a Renaissance library. To the north is Rapolano Terme, 9km/6 miles, with its thermal baths and to the west, through gorgeous countryside, is Siena itself, 21km/13 miles.
