A pretty contemporary villa designed along traditional lines with air-conditioned bedrooms, Villa Macchiano is set in the gentle hills near Lake Bracciano, a short drive north of Rome. The villa's large garden with majestic cypresses and extensive lawns is surrounded with cultivated fields, ensuring complete privacy. The views are lovely from the comfortably furnished interior of the house and from its loggia designed for lounging and al fresco meals. The lounging and sunbathing opportunities are even better on the wide flagstone terrace around the swimming pool. Treasures from both the Etruscan and Roman civilisations abound in this area, which also offers wonderful walking opportunities around its lakes and superb golf.

Location

 Set in the open rolling countryside just east of Lake Bracciano, 40 minutes’ drive from the centre of Rome. The nearest shops and restaurants are at Campagnano, 4km/3 miles. Around the lake you’ll find the Orsini-Odescalchi castle at Bracciano, 30 minutes, with an important art collection, as well as a number of pretty villages. To the north is Viterbo, 55km/34 miles, and one of the region’s most important Etruscan site at Cerveteri, 45 minutes. Golf is an option, too, at Olgiata, 20 minutes away.

Grounds

 A wide open swath of undulating lawn, 30 meters - easily large enough for a game of soccer - leads from the house to the private pool, 6.5 x 13m/21 x 43 feet. The property is part of a very large estate, which includes Villa Campagnano on the far side of the garden.

 Tennis at Campagnano di Roma, 5 minutes. Several 18-hole golf courses within a short drive, including Olgiata 20 minutes away. There are beaches at Cerveteri and Ladispoli, both about 40km/25 miles.
