Overview
Set squarely in the loveliest part of Chianti and near some of its finest Classico wineries, Villa Cignano surveys the entire region from its hilltop vantage point, including Monte Amiata, the city of Siena and a sprinkling of villages and castles. Decorated in a style that is typically Tuscan in its warmth and simplicity, this beautifully restored stone farmhouse is furnished with fine local antiques and bright fabrics that set off the original terracotta floors and high beamed ceilings and air conditioned bdrooms. A long loggia stretches across the front of the house, with a dining table positioned to capture the best view. The garden slopes gently downhill to the swimming pool, where a second loggia and comfortable loungers lend themselves to afternoons of idle contemplation.

Tuscany's most famous area never fails to please: the landscape is spectacular, the food delicious and there is something of interest around every corner. The nearest shops are in the wee hamlet of Vagliagli, 2km/1 mile, or the pretty fortified town of Castellina-in-Chianti, 15 minutes. 15 minutes to the south is Siena with its glorious Campo. Hundreds of villages and wineries to visit on foot, by bicycle or by car, and three of Italy’s finest hill towns for excursions: Monteriggioni, 25 minutes, San Gimignano, 45 minutes, and Volterra, 1 hour.
