Overview

Villa Chicchi is a very pretty contemporary stone house with a terraced garden overlooking the coast and the private port of Cala Galera near Porto Ercole on the Monte Argentario Peninsula. Very nicely decorated with a blend of antiques and modern pieces, the villa is cleverly configured to allow rooms on both levels to open directly into the garden or onto a terrace. Air conditioned bedrooms, with the exception of the master bedroom, are on a level with the pool and lower garden, while the living room and the master bedroom have their own terraces one floor above. The swimming pool is beautifully situated on a terrace overlooking the sea, with plenty of loungers for sunbathing or idle contemplation. Both villages on the peninsula offer wonderful small shops and restaurants.

Location

 Porto Ercole, about 1.5km/1 mile from the property, is a busy little resort village on the south side of Monte Argentario, with lots of shops and good restaurants. There are several beaches around Monte Argentario, as well as tennis, riding and and 18-hole golf course. Off the presqu'ile, day trips might include Capalbio, 20 minutes, the gorgeous nature reserve of the Monti dell' Uccellina, 30 minutes, or the Etruscan necropolis at Tarquinia [Lazio], 1 hour.

Lower ground floor

 Two air conditioned double bedrooms leading out into the garden, both with ensuite bathrooms with bath and shower. Air conditioned double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with shower. Small sitting room with a kitchenette for the pool.

 Large living room with an open fireplace leading out to a large terrace facing the sea. Dining room. Well-equipped kitchen leading into the rear garden and a large stone dining table. Air conditioned master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with shower and a private terrace.

Grounds

 A very pretty informal garden with a lawn shaded by large trees and several stone terraces for lounging and dining. The private pool, 5 x 10m/16 x 32 feet, is set on one of these terraces, just outside the house and positioned for the best view and most sunshine. The gardener lives in a small house near the property's gates, 100m/yards from the villa with a screen of trees and shrubs in-between.

Assistance

 Assistance is provided locally by the property's very affable offsite caretaker, who speaks English well. Services included in the rental fee, and optional services available, are noted under Price and Availability.

Access

 Airports: Rome, about 2 hours; Pisa, 2 hours 20 minutes. Railway station at Orbetello, 6km/4 miles. Monte Argentario is reached via Tuscany’s coastal road and one of the two long causeways that stretch from the mainland to the presqu’ile - a total of 11km/17 miles from the main road to Porto Ercole. Paved roads lead to the property’s gated drive, where there is parking for two cars. Moorings are available at Cala Galera.

 Steep drops and open staircases may pose a risk for small children. Occupancy is strictly limited to 8 guests, including one child.

Additional notes about the property

 The view includes two forts, Filippo and Spagnolo, the marina of Cala Galera, the lagoon of Orbetello and the coast all the way to Montalto di Castro. Pets are not permitted.
