Overview

The Rocca di Rasina is one of our most beautiful properties - and most historic, as it dates back over a thousand years. Set high in the hills on the Tuscan-Umbrian border, the immaculately-maintained private castle once stood at the edge of the papal territories and formed part of their defence. It is surrounded by eight hundred acres of private land, including a walled and gated park with sweeping lawns, a beautiful terraced pool area with two pergolas, one for dining the other relaxing in the shade. The interiors, with their lovely antique furnishings and burnished terracotta floors, are flooded with sunlight through large windows that offer spectacular views of the countryside. Living areas and bedrooms are arranged on a single level around an interior courtyard with two pergolas; one with very comfortable contemporary sofas that provides a striking milieu and a second pergola for al fresco dining, perhaps featuring the local truffles and fine wines. Outside the courtyard boasts a second pergola for dining up to twenty people. A magnificent setting for weddings and other special events, the Rocca also lends itself well to more intimate gatherings of families and friends.

Location

 The scenery here is of wooded hills studded with splendid medieval fortifications. Niccone, 4km/2 miles, provides the nearest shops to the property, with a better selection at Umbertide, 9km/6 miles. Montone, 20 minutes to the east, is a lovely hill town on the way to the spectacular pink city of Gubbio, 45 minutes. To the north is Citta di Castello, 30 minutes, with its galleries and palaces; to the west is hilltop Cortona, 30 minutes, a pleasant maze of cobbled streets, and to the south is Perugia, 1 hour, with its magnificent architecture and eclectic cultural programme.

Grounds

 A very large garden with lawns bordered by clipped hedges and wide gravel paths. The internal courtyard has very comfortably and stylishly transformed with two pergolas, on one side with contemporary sofas and on the other for al fresco dining. A third pergola with dining area lies just outside the courtyard. Sitting areas are scattered around the property, shaded by towering trees. The stone terrace around the swimming pool, 8 x 14 m/26 x 46 feet, is the perfect spot for a peaceful afternoon in the sun with two pergolas for relaxing and dining.

Assistance

 The property is managed by the owner, who lives in Rome and speaks English and French fluently; she is very responsive to special requests and highly experienced in staging large-scale events. The staff do not live onsite but are available from the early morning to very late evening. Access

 Airports: Florence; 1 hour 45 minutes; Rome, 2 hours 20 minutes. Railway station at Umbertide, 9km/6 miles. Motorway exit at Tuoro sul Trasimeno, about 25km/16 miles along paved and well-maintained white roads. Ample parking.

Pool details

 The swimming pool, 8 x 14 m/26 x 46 feet, has a depth of 1.3-2.5m/4-8 feet with a ladder for entry/exit.

Staffing and services

 Breakfast - Euro 8 per person (between 0830 and 1030).
Dinner - Euro 30 per person, drinks excluded. To commence no earlier than 19.30 and no later than 21.00 (3 course menu).

The shopping, organising of the menus, laying of the table, serving, clearing of the table and cleaning of the kitchen and waiter service are included in the above rates. A sample menu can be obtained by contacting our conciergeservices@tuscanynow.com

You need to pre arrange your meals prior to your arrival so contact conciergeservices@tuscanynow.com and advise us accordingly. Remember that if any members have any allergies or food intolerances, you must advise us and of course if you have any personal preferences.

A light lunch can be arranged on demand.

- 08.00: Three members of staff, cook, maid and waitress, arrive via the rear entrance without disturbing any guests. They shall commence with rearranging and tidy of the sitting room and living areas. Laying of the table for breakfast.

- 08.30 10.30: Preparing and serving continental breakfast in the courtyard.

-10.30 12.00: With breakfast now finished the table shall be cleared, food stored, cleaning of the kitchen, making of beds, cleaning of bathrooms.

-12.00: All members of staff leave unless lunch is required. For further details please see extra services available.

-12.00 15.00: Optional lunch; laying of the table, preparing and served. Please see lunch menu. Table is then cleared, kitchen if tidied and cleaned.

-18.00: Three members of staff, cook, maid and waitress return. Lay dinner table. Cook will commence preparation of dinner.

-18.30: Aperitif with snacks.
Torches can be arranged around the courtyard for atmospheric al fresco dining. For further details please see extra services available.

-20.00: Dinner is served either in the courtyard or in the castle. For further details please see dinner menu. Table is cleared (shall be cleared the following day if guests have not finished by 22.00), food stored, kitchen tidied and cleaned.
-22.00: Staff depart
-Guests close the main courtyard entrance.
-5 members of staff are included.
-3 staff; cook, maid and waitress. 8 hours per day, 08.00 -12.00 and 18.00 - 22.00.
-1 gardener for pool and grounds upkeep.

- Wine is purchased at high standard local cantina’s which have a wide variety of wines from the Umbria region and which organises wine-tasting. For further details please see extra services available.
However guests may want to buy a different wine and may do so by themselves and inform the cook not to purchase any.
All meat is bought from local organic farm. No OGM
