Overview

Il Borgo di Petroio is a beautiful stone farmhouse set on an important 900 acre estate in the hills above Rufina, within easy reach of Florence. The large farmhouse has just been lovingly restored by the owners. They used their experience of caterers and event designers for the wealthy for two generations and we added our 22 years of experience of renting luxury villas in Tuscany. The final result is great. Large rooms with high white wash beamed ceilings, air conditioning and contemporary en suite bathrooms. A professional kitchen, a spacious dining room, two fireplaces with plenty of comfortable seating areas. The main house has also an attached guest house that leads into a charming courtyard with a second kitchen that has a bread oven and a large fireplace, two double bedrooms each with an en suite bathroom. The rooms have been furnished very tastefully with collections of paintings, traditional black and white photos, drawings and a wide selection of English books. Light pours from the wide gardens through the doors and windows into the pastel coloured rooms. The large private swimming pool is set in the ideal location, enjoying sweeping views of the surrounding hills and bathes in the sun all day. As the house the garden and the pool area are furnished with high quality garden furniture and by the pool there is an open shower and a changing room with WC. There is a astro-turf tennis court on the estate which is shared with the estate’s Villa that is also available. The owners are a prominent local family with roots from the US as Tuscany, that are able to cater for any of our clients needs, however complicated they might be.

For extra guests La Villa di Petroio can accommodate up to 16 people. For larger parties The Estate of Petroio consisting of La Villa di Petroio and Il Borgo di Petroio can accommodate up to 30 people. For further details please refer to the description of these.

Rental options notes

 The guest house is not available and closed for this rental option. Note that it shall not be used by anyone.

Location

 On a hillside within a working 300ha/900-acre farm, which guests are free to explore at leisure. Acone Sant'Eustachio, 3km/2 miles, is the nearest village and offers shops and a good pizzeria. The town of Rufina with its wine museum is 7km/4 miles away, and the centre of Florence can be reached in 40 minutes.

 WC/cloakroom. Very well equipped kitchen with a professional cooker and a separate pantry. Large dining room with a dining table for 12 leading out into the garden next to the al fresco dining area. Breakfast room leads into the kitchen with a second fireplace. Large Sitting room with an open fireplace and a TV area. Laundry room.

First floor

 Large air-conditioned sitting room.

First floor/South wing

 Master double bedroom with air conditioning, with an open fireplace, a private terrace and an ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. Double bedroom with air conditioning with an en-suite bathroom with shower. A second double bedroom with air conditioning with an ensuite bathroom with shower.

First floor/North wing

 Up 3 steps from the sitting room, twin bedroom with air conditioning and with an ensuite bathroom with shower. Double bedroom with air conditioning and with an ensuite bathroom with shower.

Guest house/Ground floor

 Kitchen with a fireplace and bread oven. Dining room with a sitting area. Both rooms lead out onto a charming terrace under a large tree. Laundry room.

First floor

 Master double bedroom with a separate sitting room with a wood burning stove and a sofa bed, both rooms have air conditioning and an ensuite bathroom with shower. Twin bedroom with air conditioning and an ensuite bathroom with shower.

Pool house

 Changing room. WC. Shower.

Grounds

 Extensive, beautifully maintained gardens with lawns, herbal border plants and fruit orchards set within a working farm. The very large, fenced swimming pool, 8 x 18m/26 x 58 feet, is set on a lawned terrace enjoying sun all day and stunning views. A shady gazebo for lounging and dining stands nearby. Open air living area with comfortable sofa shaded by a large chestnut tree. Lovely opportunities for walking and for observing the deer that live in the estate's woodlands. The more active will enjoy the estate’s astro-turf tennis court.

Assistance

 Assistance is provided locally by the property's caretaker and his wife, who live in a separate house further up the hill. The owner lives in Florence and speaks English fluently. Services included in the rental fee, and optional services available, are noted under Price and Availability.

Access

 Airports: Florence, just over 1 hour; Pisa, 1 hour 45 minutes; Rome, about 3 hours. Railway station at Rufina, 8km/5 miles. Motorway exit at Firenze Sud, 25km/16 miles along paved but occasionally narrow roads to the property’s white drive. Self driven people carriers up to a maximum of 6 people and chauffeur driven mini buses up to a maximum of 12 people are permitted en-route from Rufina to the property. Note that this is due to local legislation. Parking for four cars.

Activities

 Onsite Estate’s astro-turf tennis court. Several riding stables in the area. Three 18-hole golf within 1 hour's drive. A path leaves Acone to climb Monte Giove (992m/3224 feet).
