Overview

The name Casa al Bosco - 'House in the Woods' - conveys the sense of privacy and peace afforded by this lovely old stone house, but fails to pay tribute to the wonderful airiness of its rooms and the sweeping views of the Colle del Val d'Elsa from its terrace and dining loggia. Terracotta floors, high beamed ceilings and a quiet blend of contemporary and antique furnishings combine to create an interior that is cool and welcoming during the summer months and warm and cosy when the temperatures fall. Two air-conditioned bedrooms and guest house sitting room. A broad lawn studded with olive trees and cypresses leads downhill to a large pool where loungers provide a leisurely alternative to sightseeing. This highly sought-after region hosts some of the finest wineries in Tuscany, whose products can be sampled on the spot at their fattorie or in any one of the many fine restaurants in the nearby villages.

Clients reviews

The house was lovely, the furnishings were very comfortable, the view was spectacular and when your nose filled with the heady perfume of the Jasmine on the columns, what else could you ask for. Letizia and the Gentleman who came each morning were wonderful to deal with and any small issues were taken care of in a prompt and professional manner. It was perfect!

A wonderful villa with lots of space for our family group which included 4 children aged 2 to 9 years. They loved exploring the grounds which were absolutely safe for them all to run around in freely as it was several miles to the road! Wonderful spaces for hide and seek! The pool was far enough away from the house to be of no significant risk to the 2 year old. He had lots of space near the house to run around without feeling constrained by our "rule" that he mustn't go down the long stepped path to the pool. Furthermore the pool was not visible from the house area so it was not immediately tempting for the small children to access it unattended. We just loved the rural location of this villa where the children could make as much noise as they wanted and had so much free space in and out of the house. We loved watching the fireflies in the evening, listening to the wild boar grunting in the woods, the cuckoos calling and the owls hooting. We had breakfast outside in the morning sun and ate dinner in the evening watching the sun setting over the valley below. A fabulous experience. Letizia, the housekeeper/manager, could not have been more helpful and obliging. A big thank you to her for making our stay so enjoyable and for dealing with all our queries so obligingly. Her English was excellent. Mr. Vannoni, the caretaker, also deserves special mention. He, too, could not have been more helpful even though we didn't have a common language by which to communicate.

The setting and views were amazing. We enjoyed our patio for morning coffee and our fireplace for evening vin santo. The ripe figs on the tree were a treat and we enjoyed the kitchen very much - it was wonderful to cook in. Everything was well stocked for cooking and serving. We really felt that we were staying in a country home - very easy to feel that it was our home.
