Lazio, beyond Rome, barely garners a mention in
guidebooks, an omission much appreciated by the
many Romans who have their country houses in its
northern stretches bordering Tuscany and Umbria.
Three crater lakes - Vico, Bracciano and Bolsena -
form the centrepieces of this fertile area, where the
Etruscans had their most important settlements
some 10,000 years ago. Immediately surrounding
Rome are the beautiful hills where Renaissance
popes and nobles passed their summers among the
vineyards and pretty villages, now known for their
fresh white wines and. Glorious beaches and a
beautiful nature reserve fringe the coast south of
Rome from Circeo to Gaeta.
You might say that our properties are as diverse
as Italy itself, ranging from glorious Tuscan
farmhouses to historic landmarks stuffed with
antiques and airy seaside villas designed by award winning
architects. They come in all sizes. Some
are charming in their simplicity; others are
downright luxurious. But they share the specific set
of qualities that are the hallmarks of a Tuscany Now
property: a spectacular setting, interiors that are
comfortable, welcoming and full of personality, and
beautifully kept grounds with a private swimming
pool or direct beach access. All our private houses
include housekeeping services at least weekly. Extra
services, from maids to cooks and guides, are
available at many locations.
