| You may not have heard of the towns in this area but you’ll certainly recognize the scenery. These are the Tuscan landscapes in the photography books: the smooth, green or golden hills with a single, impeccably placed farmhouse/village/flock of sheep/row of cypresses. As the pictures imply, this is not one of Tuscany’s more densely populated areas. Nor are there many day-trippers; public transport is desultory at best and tour buses ploughing the route between Siena and the famous vineyards to the south prefer to follow the autostradas.
