| Orvieto has one of the most beautiful Duomos, Cathedrals in Italy. When the sun sets, the white marble catches fire and is a beacon of light for the many villages and hamlets that sit around this magnificent medieval city. Perched at the top of a “rock” that provides its defensive city walls, this intriguing city has been the home to the Etruscans, Romans, and a Pope in love with the local wine. Today, still a thriving town with a proud population and its character intact, it is enjoyed by the odd day tourist heading for Rome and by well travelled tourists that return year after year to this unspoilt city. The town center, has a lot more to offer than just the Duomo, sophisticated shops, bars and restaurants cater for the locals as the tourists and should you ever get bored of eating ice cream in the evening in the piazza, it is a great location from which to explore the rest of Umbria, or Rome as southern Tuscany. In short, you have it all. |
