Villas near Montalcino

Luxury villas · Private pools · 20 years of experience

At the head of a beautiful lush valley sits the majestic abbey of Sant’ Antimo, one of the most beautiful settings of all Tuscany. This is one of the many unspoilt landmarks that are located in the surrounding countryside of the beautiful medieval town of Montalcino, perched on a strategic hill top and built on the foundations of an Etruscan settlement. The town controlled the Cassia, the main road that used to lead from Rome to Siena and then to Florence, just to the west of the Val d’Orcia, a valley which is now protected by UNESCO. Small hamlets, castles and walled villages sit high on hilltops surrounded by olive groves that go back hundreds of years and immaculate vineyards. Here is produced one of Italy’s most renowned wines, Il Brunello, by the strong local Sangiovese Grosso grapes.

Montalcino

The road from Montepulciano through Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia to Montalcino is one of Tuscany’s most scenic - and winding. The Val d’Orcia - the valley of the river Orcia, in case you haven’t spotted the trend - stretches southwards as far as Lazio’s Lake Bolsena, and boasts a series of fortresses and fortified villages already standing before the Via Francigena passed this way. There is nothing of particular historic interest in walled San Quirico d’Orcia, but it is a very pleasant place to walk with a number of nice looking enoteche and a public garden, known as the Horti Leonini, which retains its original 16th century layout. It is also a hub for a number of walking trails in area to Montalcino and Bagno Vignoni. Read more...

We liked the manner in which it was so beautifully finished.
