In a large loop of the Chiascio river and surrounded by woodland and meadows. Carbonesca, 2km/1 mile, offers the nearest restaurant and food shops, with a supermarket at Casacastalda, 4km/2.5 miles. Medieval Gubbio, 12km/7 miles, is easily one of the loveliest sights in Umbria; Perugia, 40km/24 miles, is a wonderful place for lunch, shopping and, in July, for its jazz festival. Assisi, 35km/21 miles, is worth the drive for its religious buildings and for the fresco cycle by Giotto. To the east is Roman-built Gualdo Tadino, a possible stop on the way to the gorgeously scenic Monte Cucco regional park with its walking trails, caves and climbing walls. The park is also one of the top destinations for hang-gliding in Italy.

The Castello’s extensive land includes a working farm and woodland with deers, wild boars and pheasants. A guide is available for visits around the property, and for picking mushrooms and truffles in season. A swimming pool, 8 x 15m/29 x 49 feet, is set about 130m/yards from the Castello's beautifully-maintained garden. A pool house with a bathroom with shower, changing room and fridge stands nearby.
