Le Mura, within walking distance, is a tiny hamlet set in the hills to the west of fortified hilltop Certaldo, 20km/13 miles, and north-west of spectacular San Gimignano, 27km/17 miles. The nearest shops and restaurants are at Montaione, 3km/2 miles. To the south is Volterra, 30km/19 miles, an Etruscan-founded hilltop city. Excursions might include Florence, the Chianti wine region or Siena, all reached in just over an hour's drive.
