Lucca, 6km/4 miles from the property, is deservedly the main attraction in this hilly area between the steep, forested Alpi Apuane and the busy coastal strip. Its straight Roman streets are punctuated by little piazzas and churches and there is a wonderful promenade along the top of the town’s walls. In the surrounding hills are several spectacular Renaissance villas, now open to the public. Food can be purchased at the tiny village of Cappella, 2km/1 mile, or at Lucca. The beaches and restaurants at Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi are about 28km/18 miles’ drive. Pisa and Florence can both be reached in roughly 1 hour by car.

The main house has a pretty enclosed garden adjacent to the houses with a lawn, an outdoor sitting area and a dining loggia with barbeque. The guest house has a small courtyard area with a shaded area for dining. Across the small road, 20m/yards from the houses and down a few steps, is the solar heated swimming pool, 6 x 12m/20 x 39 feet, on a terracotta terrace with a second dining loggia with barbeque. The garden is secured by a gate, as is the swimming pool.
