Villa di Masseto is located on a hill close to Fiesole, 12km/8 miles to the south-west, which overlooks Florence and is considered one of Italy’s most beautiful towns in its own right. Olmo is too small to appear on most maps but it does boast a restaurant within walking distance of the villa, 1000m/yards. Otherwise the nearest food shop is 2.5km/1.5 miles at the ancient village of Santa Brigida, with a better selection outside Fiesole. It’s a 25-minute drive into the centre of Florence (including rush hour), slightly less to Vicchio, the birthplace of Renaissance icon Fra Angelico, and to the 18-hole golf course and spa at Scarperia. To the north is the Mugello, a lovely area that favoured by weekending Florentines, and to the east is Rufina, one of the Chianti wine-producing regions.

A very beautiful formal garden surrounds the house, with two large fountains. A gazebo lies just along the way from the main dining room for al fresco dining. The swimming pool, 5.70 x 13m/18 x 42 feet, is set about 30m/yards from the villa on a lower terrace wich includes a dining area and a gazebo. The property includes fields with more than 500 olive trees ideal for keen walkers.
