Overview A splendid 16th century stone farmhouse, Tizzano crowns a hilltop in western Chianti and gazes over its 300 hectares/750 acres of gardens, vineyards, woods and olive groves. The country retreat of an aristocratic Italian family for many generations, it has the patina of centuries of love and care. Antiques, objets d’art, comfortable sofas and shelves filled with books set the tone for the three sitting areas, one with vaulted ceilings, which provide plenty of quiet reading corners as well as space for the whole party to gather. There is a choice of eating areas, too: a formal dining room with a beautiful old terracotta floor, a vine-covered pergola for long lunches and warm evenings, and a loggia with a barbeque and fireplace or chillier times. The villa’s old world charm has been retained in the remodelled kitchen and bathrooms, and is echoed in a new and luxurious self-sufficient pool house, dubbed ‘The Lemon House’. A large independent suite over two floors can be accessed from the main villa or through an independent entrance. Facing south and across the Tuscan hills, the gardens include extensive lawns, a large swimming pool, several sitting areas and even a play area for children.
