On the south-western coast of Sicily, 10 minutes from Selinunte and a string of white beaches. The nearest shops are at Castelvetrano, 3km/2 miles. An excellent motorway runs between Castelvetrano and Palermo, 1 hour to the centre, a wonderful city for touring with some very unusual sights. There are two worthwhile detours on the way: the little solitary temple of Segesta and Monreale, for a look at its mosaic-encrusted Duomo. Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples lies about 100km/62 miles to the east.

Lush lawns and lovely old trees in a 10ha/25-acre citrus estate. The swimming pool, 6 x 12m/19 x 39 feet, is set into a flagstone terrace immediately outside the house. The pool is beautifully designed with an infinity edge, and can be supervised from a loggia attached to the house. Outdoor shower.
Assistance
Assistance is provided locally by the property's extremely kind caretaker, who lives in a separate house on the estate with his family. He speaks a little English and fluent German; his son speaks English beautifully. Services included in the rental fee, and optional services available, are noted under Price and Availability.

Airports: Palermo, about 45 minutes. Motorway exit at Castelvetrano, 10km/6 miles along paved roads to the property's gates. Parking for six cars.
Activities
Tennis at Castelvetrano. A beautiful white sand beach (with a great little restaurant) is just past Selinunte, 10 minutes. A sports complex with two championship golf courses is due to open in 2009 at Sciacca, 36km/22 miles.
