Overview An ivy-covered stone farmhouse believed to date from the 12th century, Santa Caterina is beautifully set on a hilltop in the midst of the dramatic landscape between Orvieto and Lake Bolsena. The deep valleys, towers and ancient stone hamlets visible from the house inspired Turner to set up his easel on this very hillside, with the results on display at London's Tate Gallery. Inside the restored farmhouse, old terracotta floors and beamed ceilings form a backdrop to lovely antique furniture and a host of artistic decorative touches. The ground floor living areas all open into the garden, and an outdoor kitchen with a barbeque has been installed on a terrace off the dining room. A well-kept lawn leads across to the swimming pool with its tree-shaded terrace, teak loungers and wonderful view of the valley.
