Sixteenth century San Bartolomeo occupies its own hilltop at the end of a long drive through a private five-hundred-acre estate that produces wine and olive oil. Beautifully restored, both the main house and the adjacent guest house-cum-barn are decorated in a bright and fresh style that contrasts beautifully with the original terracotta floors and beamed ceilings. A swimming pool is set above the main house, with loungers and umbrellas positioned at vantage points for wonderful views of the valley. The most detailed maps of Tuscany will show San Bartolomeo, a hamlet in its own right, as a tiny dot between Arezzo and Anghiari, and guide books will link the area to Renaissance artists Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Piero della Francesca, who all lived and worked nearby
