Overview
A classic Tuscan farmhouse dating from the 17th century, Poggio Alto (literally, ‘High Hill’) lives up to its name and commands panoramic views in every direction of the gently rolling hills of south-eastern Tuscany. Tasteful restoration of the interior has created a country residence with airy, spacious rooms, comfortably elegant furnishings and a truly splendid modern kitchen. A well stocked library speaks of the owners' love of books, as do the many nooks around the house and garden designed as quiet spots for reading; among these is a 'contemplation' garden with a pond below the house. Extensive lawns with olive trees and cypresses lead to a large, terraced pool with a shady loggia at one side. A charming guest cottage for four, with its own small kitchen and sitting room, faces the main house. Extraordinarily peaceful, Poggio Alto is nonetheless only minutes away from the medieval towns of Cetona and Chiusi and within easy driving distance of the wine centres of Montepulciano and Orvieto.
