On a winding scenic road just outside the village of Sarteano, 1.5km/1 mile, and midway between the spa town of Chianciano Terme and the little hilltop village of Chiusi, both 9km/6 miles. The nearest restaurant, La Laterna, is a short walk down the road; the nearest shops and a thermal spa - are in Sarteano. The villa’s location on the regional border makes it a terrific base for explorations. There are literally hundreds of hilltop villages within half an hour’s drive of which the most famous is probably Montepulciano, about 16km/10 miles. Pienza, just a little further, was designed as an urban utopia in the 15th century. On the Umbrian side a visit to Perugia, 1 hour, is not to be missed and a stop at Castiglione del Lago, 30 minutes, on Lake Trasimeno will break the drive nicely.
