Overview
A wonderfully restored 15th century stone farmhouse and separate guest house, nestling in the hills with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside, Val d’ Esse and Valdichiana. Cortona, about 25 minutes drive away, the birthplace of three renowned artists; Luca Signorelli (c.1445-1523); Baroque painter, Pietro Berrettini (1596-1669) better known as Pietro da Cortona, master of Pitti Palace in Florence and Futurist-Impressionist-mosaicist Gino Severini (1883-1966) all of whom left works in their hometown. Medieval Cortona held its own against Perugia, Arezzo and Siena while the Ghibellines and Guelphs battled until the Ghibellines succeeded in becoming the ruling family. This typical Tuscan feast of self-destruction ended in 1409 when King Ladislas of Naples captured the city and sold it to the Florentines. Montanare and Pergo offer the closest amenities with supermarkets, shops and restaurants. Restored by its present Architect owner who converted the farmhouse into a wonderful country retreat with attention to detail, maintaining the original beamed ceilings and the stone floors salvaged from a 16th century monastery. Tastefully furnished to a very high level with a modern kitchen, comfortable sitting room with fireplace and Travertine stone bathrooms. The self sufficient guest house lies next to the main house. Well kept garden laced with cypress, olive trees and rosemary bushes surrounded by 10 acres of private woodland. Private swimming pool set in front of the villa furnished with loungers and umbrellas with stunning views across the countryside. Air conditioning throughout the main farmhouse. Luxurious and recently completely refurbished to the highest standards and comfort level with everything needed for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in all seasons. This villa offers genuine tranquillity, seclusion and privacy appealing to the non “city slicker” who genuinely wants to discover Tuscany and is looking for a peaceful and private holiday and will enjoy leaving the hustle and bustle of town life as they wind up the private white road, spotting all sorts of wonderful flowers, wildlife and the most stunning views over the picturesque Val di Chiana. An idyllic setting for keen walkers, trekking and various sports including mountain bike rides where undisturbed nature is seen at its best. |
