To the north of Orvieto is a landscape of steep, wooded hills and farmed valleys. Villages of medieval origin, many of them fortified, crown most of the hills. The little village of Pornello, 500m/yards from the property, sits near the top of a hill between Montegiove and its fortress, 8km/5 miles, and San Venanzo, 11km/7 miles, and its castle. A lovely road leads from San Venanzo to Perugia, 50km/31 miles, with Assisi 13km/8 miles beyond. Orvieto and Todi, the two largest hill towns of the area, are well worth the 45-minute drive.
