A contemporary villa created from the ruins of an old farmhouse, La Lestra is set in the gentle hills near the coast at the very southern extreme of Tuscany. The main house and its guest house feature glass walls, shaded loggias and terraces that make the best of sweeping views and sea breezes. Within, exposed stone walls are complemented by tiled floors and comfortable modern furnishings. Each of the six bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom. An extremely well equipped kitchen serves a choice of indoor and outdoor dining areas; a poolside loggia with a big barbeque provides an even more attractive option for lingering lunches and sunset dinners. Those who do manage to pull themselves away from the sunny pool terrace, with its teak loungers and market umbrellas, have a wonderful choice of touring options including hillside villages, wineries, natural hot springs, Etruscan sites and the spectacular promontory of Monte Argentario.
