In the heart of the Orvieto Classico region, and in an area known for its truffles and chestnuts, this is a terrific spot for wine lovers and gourmets alike, as well as keen walkers and horseback riders. Medieval hilltop Porano, which has shops and restaurants, lies 20 minutes south of Orvieto. Bolsena and Montefiascone, in Lazio, can be reached in less than 30 minutes. Todi is about an hour’s drive. The high point of the year in Porano is May 20, when the town hosts the feast of St. Bernard of Siena. The National Horse Show also takes place here in May.

Assistance is provided locally by the owner’s very conscientious son, who speaks English and lives just outside the village, assisted by a charming caretaker who speaks a little German but no English.
