Overview Perched dramatically on a hilltop opposite Orvieto, Porano, in spite of its location, remains one of the few 'ungentrified' hilltop villages in southern Umbria. La Casa dei Mercanti is set at the edge of the village, facing outwards to enjoy sweeping views across a huge expanse of the Umbrian countryside with farmlands and stands of cypresses as far as the eye can see. Both the main house and its barn-cum-guest house are tastefully decorated around the original terracotta floors and beamed ceilings. The pool is set on a terrace at the edge of a steep drop, ideal for sunbathing and idle contemplation.
