At the heart of a vast citrus plantation, L’Agave is a contemporary, one-storey villa with bright, spacious interiors and a choice of indoor and outdoor living areas – the perfect design for Sicily’s hot summers and balmy winters. French doors and large windows open to a beautiful garden surrounded by lemon trees, where an infinity-edged pool and a row of loungers suggest long, lazy days in the sunshine. The many amenities include air-conditioning, satellite television and ensuite bathrooms throughout. L’Agave lies within ten minutes’ drive of Selinunte, an ancient Greek colony overlooking the Mediterranean that is one of Sicily’s most spectacular archeological sites – and happens to be located on one of the island’s best beaches. This western portion of Sicily is less well known and less densely settled than the east but offers a wealth of touring option, from the windmills of Trapani to the baroque centre and little museum in Marsala. Palermo, Erice, Monreale and Agrigento are all about an hour’s drive away.
