Wonderfully located for touring Florence and Chianti. San Romolo is a tiny hamlet with a single shop, 5 minutes' walk, and there is a nice trattoria just down the road at Villamagna, 2km/1.5 miles. It's a 15-minute drive into Florence. Bagno a Ripoli, 6km/4 miles, has supermarkets and a tennis club. Greve-in-Chianti in the wine region is 40 minutes' drive, and Siena can be reached in 1 hour.

A very large property that includes 20ha/48 acres of gardens, woods and olive groves. The swimming pool, 6 x 10m/20 x 33 feet, is set some 130m/150 yards from the house, in front of a large loggia furnished with loungers. Wooden decking conceals the above-ground construction of the pool.

Assistance is provided locally by the property's very helpful owner, who speaks a little English (and very good French) and lives in the neighbouring house, approximately 80m/300 feet from Il Monte; she has written a book about the area and is a fountain of information.
