In a peaceful setting above the Val d’Arno and Castelfranco di Sopra, 6km/4 miles, 45 minutes’ drive from Florence and Arezzo. Terrific walking opportunities in the Pratomagno, especially around the Vallombrosa Abbey, or in the Casentino region to the east. The Monti del Chianti run parallel to the Arno and mark the boundary of the Classico wine-producing area; begin your explorations at Gaiole, 40 minutes, with a tasting session at the cooperativo. For a change of pace, Incisa, 30 minutes, offers a cluster of designer factory outlets.
