Bagnoregio, 2km/1.5 miles, supplies the nearest shops, restaurants and tennis courts. Civita [di Bagnoregio], is a 10-minute drive to the east, with Civitella d’Agliano a further 10 minutes. To the west is lovely Lake Bolsena and its namesake town, 20 minutes; to the south is the old wine centre of Montefiascone, 20 minutes, and the small-but-bustling city of Viterbo, 40 minutes. Orvieto, arguably the loveliest of all hill towns, lies 30 minutes to the north.

A simple lawned garden on a high plateau bordered by open fields. The private swimming pool, 4.70 x 11m/15 x 36 feet, is set into the lawn immediately outside the house with an old chestnut tree and a market umbrella for shade.
