Monti in Chianti, a tiny village 1km/0.5 miles from the villa, is too small to appear on most maps of Tuscany but does boast a food shop. This area is known for its many medieval castles and, of course, for its wine. Touring options might include the wine centres at Gaiole-in-Chianti or Castello di Brolio, both less than 15 minutes’ drive. Siena, 22km/14 miles, involves a beautiful but winding drive along the famous Via Chiantigiana. The same road leads northwards to Florence, 65km/41 miles.

The small private garden lies across the drive from the house at the edge of the hamlet (10m/yards away), within, the swimming pool, 4 x 5 metres/12 x 15 feet, is set on a terracotta terrace with breathtaking views.

Assistance is provided by the caretaker who speaks English and German, as by the owner and by staff living in the attached castle. Visits to the historical cellars, tours of the vineyards and olive groves and tastings may be arranged at the property.
