Overview
With a view that sweeps across half of Tuscany, Castello di Cacchiano is the defence tower of a small, private hamlet in southern Chianti. The hamlet, which dates from the 11th century, is still owned by the same family that built it and now lies at the centre of their internationally-known wine and olive oil estates. A pretty tree-lined drive leads up to the hamlet through the vineyards and olive groves. Castello di Cacchiano stands near the entrance, an upright building of honey-coloured stone with a walled garden and swimming pool. Inside, the building's three levels are decorated with charm and character in a style to match the traditional terracotta floors and old beamed ceilings. Large windows and a sunny terrace face the magnificent view of vineyards, farmhouses, rolling hills and, in the distance, the mountains of the Pratomagno and the Monte Amiata range. Set in the heart of an area known for its fine wines and beautiful medieval castles, the Castello di Cacchiano simply could not be better located for touring the Chianti Classico region and central Tuscany. |
