Casa al Forno’s buttressed, 18th century façade belies a stylish, contemporary interior that blends beautifully with the traditional terracotta floors and wood-beamed ceilings. Set on its own hilltop between medieval San Gimignano and Pisa, the house enjoys long hours of bright sunlight and endless views over rolling fields and patches of forest. A recently-completed restoration added French doors and large windows to flood the living areas with light, as well as a spacious new kitchen and a modern bathroom for each bedroom. Off the kitchen, an open dining loggia overlooks the freshly-planted garden and the private swimming pool. This part of Tuscany is known as the Collini Pisani, an area noted for its tiny, untouristed villages and vineyards that produce wines under the Chianti classification. A beautiful old hamlet ten minutes’ drive from the property has been converted into a top-notch sports complex with an 18-hole golf course.
