A pink stucco cottage that began life as a hay barn, Buristio lies in the hills between Siena and Arezzo, just outside a tiny hamlet that earns its dot on the map as the site of an 11th century monastery, San Pietro, and the source of a mineral water said to cure liver and kidney ailments. Freshly refurbished from top to bottom, the cottage is configured on two levels. The lower floor is occupied by an open-plan living area with a very nicely equipped kitchen area, a dining table and a comfortable couch. The air-conditioned double bedroom on the first floor features a high, peaked ceiling. Within 40 minutes’ drive lie many of Tuscany’s most famous sights. The art cities of Siena and Arezzo boast the best-known treasures but the little surprises are often the most pleasurable: the old square at Monte Sansavino, the church in Lucignano, the restaurant in Castelnuovo Berardenga. Once you’ve finished your explorations for the day, what better than to watch the sun set as you sip a glass of chilled wine in Buristio’s swimming pool with hydromassage?
