Perched high on a hillside east of Florence in the Chianti Rufina wine-producing area, Bucigna Vecchia is a traditional Tuscan farmhouse with a history that dates back over 800 years. A long private white road through acres of land ensures complete privacy at both the fully restored main house and its adjacent guest house. The interiors are furnished simply but nicely in a blend of antiques and comfortable modern pieces, with a backdrop of beamed ceilings and terracotta floors. Epicureans can spend their days wandering between wineries and art history buffs need only pop down the road to visit the birthplaces of two Renaissance icons, Fra Angelico and Giotto. Golfers, too, can have their fun, with three 18-hole courses within an hour's drive.
